SHAW AND PARTNERS WORLD OCEAN SERIES MURPHY HOMES MAROOCHY CLASSIC - WRAP 

We don’t want to be cliché and say it was one of the better weekends on the beach but it was. This event delivered a storyline like no other, highlighted by Tiarnee Massie’s fairytale performance on home sand. Claiming both the Ironwoman and Board titles, Massie ignited a euphoric atmosphere for Maroochydore Surf Life Saving Club, with locals and spectators riding every moment of an unforgettable weekend.

The Murphy Homes Maroochy Classic always delivers incredible racing, and it lived up to the hype again. The Friday arvo iron qualifiers set up the weekend. With 118 ironmen and 90 ironwoman battling it out for twenty spots in the finals. It was extremely humid with a two foot wave with on shore winds. You can tell the pressure was on to get your spot in the final. As the season beings to come to the pointy end.  

From the Robert Thomasson Memorial Ironman Trophy being lifted on Maroochydore sand a club steeped in surf lifesaving history  to the next generation stepping into the spotlight, the depth of the sport was on full display. The juniors rose to the occasion in the finals arena, racing with speed, composure and technical skill beyond their years, offering a clear glimpse into a future that looks faster and sharper than ever. At the elite end, Bonnie Hancock’s return to racing continued her remarkable journey, adding her first Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series victory after conquering a paddle around Australia. Meanwhile, Conner Maggs stamped his authority on the season with back-to-back wins on consecutive weekends, coming to the front when it mattered most in a thrilling duel with the great Ali Day. With momentum building and narratives emerging across every level, Maggs now leads the Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series  and the championship battle is well and truly alive.  By Saturday afternoon, the atmosphere at Maroochydore Surf Life Saving Club was unreal. The beach was packed, the crowd was loud, and every heat felt like a final. With club colours lining the shore and athletes feeding off the energy, it was one of those afternoons where the surf, the spectators, and the racing all clicked at once.

MEN’S BOARD
1st – Matt Bevilacqua
2nd – Cruz Mckee
3rd – Campbell Guthrie

 Bevy was too good from the outset. His experience chasing bumps proved decisive, shutting the door on any challengers in the closing stages of the race. McKee and Guthrie rounded out the podium after a fierce battle to the line.

WOMEN’S BOARD
1st – Tiarnee Massie
2nd – Hannah Sculley
3rd – Naomi Scott

It was a sprint to the beach between arguably the three best female board paddlers in the world right now. With the local crowd behind her, Massie found another gear in the closing metres to take the win.

MEN’S SKI
1st – Mitch Morris
2nd – Cody Gaddes
3rd – Jayden Erskine

Mitch Morris dominated from start to finish. His electric start set the tone early, and in a men’s ski field as stacked as ever, he left no room for error. A huge congratulations to Cody and Jayden Erskine, who rounded out the podium.

WOMEN’S SKI
1st – Bonnie Hancock
2nd – Emily Doyle
3rd – Claudia Kelly

Like the men’s race, Bonnie Hancock went turbo through the women’s ski field, showcasing her strength and reminding everyone just how good she is. There were no surprises on the rest of the podium, with Doyle and Kelly delivering elite performances as well.

MEN’S SWIM
1st – Cooper Williams
2nd – Nick Middleton
3rd – Josiah Short

Cooper Williams is a genuine freak. In these conditions he was simply untouchable electric off the beach, supremely skilful, and a jet in the swim. No one came close to Williams.

WOMEN’S SWIM
1st – Lana Rogers
2nd – Claudia-Rose Slaven
3rd – Olivia Clues

The women’s swim came down to a five-way sprint up the beach, with Lana getting the girls home to claim the win. You have to feel for Claudia she’s due for one. A huge shout-out as well to Liv Clues, who rounded out the podium in the women’s swim.

IRONMAN
1st – Conner Maggs
2nd – Ali Day
3rd – Cory Taylor

Wow, what a race. From the gun it was Ali Day who set the temperature, and for a long time it looked like it was truly Ali’s day. From the start through to the closing stages, Ali kept shifting gears and controlling the lead.

But Conner Maggs produced a freak swim to drag it back to the final board leg, where he descended on a wave and set up a sprint finish up the beach alongside Day. When it mattered most, Maggs found another gear and took the lead.

CT was clutch in that final board leg, showing his trademark endurance and experience under pressure.

 

IRONWOMAN
1st – Tiarnee Massie
2nd – Lana Rogers
3rd – Naomi Scott 

This fairytale race for Tiarnee Massie was set up in the final leg. With a host of contenders still in the mix, the win was wide open, but Massie stayed calm and executed when it mattered most. We knew she was due for a victory this season.

Could this be the opening of the door for Tiarnee? She now sits second in the overall standings.
