Sprint finishes, launched skis and an Ironwoman final for the ages. Every podium from the Shaw and Partners Bonny Hills 7,000.
Bonny Hills didn't ease anyone in. Friday afternoon's iron heats were perfect conditions for testing yourself. It started at 2–3 foot and was pumping at 3–5 foot by the evening. Skis got launched, plenty of plans went out the window, and the smartest racers were the ones who made it through.
That set the mood for Super Saturday at the adventure round of the Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series. More than 1,800 race entries, heaps of sprint finishes, and a club rivalry that ended dead level. Northcliffe and Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park both left with 15 podiums across the program.
The finals kicked off with the irons, and both delivered. Grab a coffee, this is the full wrap.
The iron finals
Ironman: 1. Zach Morris (Northcliffe) 2. Conner Maggs (Mermaid Beach) 3. Matt Bevilacqua (Northcliffe)
Zach Morris took the route nobody else could. He won his opening heat, went straight through to the final without racing a quarter or semi, then won the big one. Conner Maggs, another opening heat winner, took second. Matt Bevilacqua came through the long way, finishing second in his semi before grabbing third in the final. Ethan Callaghan (Burleigh) was fourth, one spot off the podium, and he'd get his revenge on the board.

Ironwoman: 1. Naomi Scott (Northcliffe) 2. Lucy Derbyshire (Palm Beach QLD) 3. Holly Holmesby (Burleigh)
If you watch one replay from the weekend, make it this one. It was genuine chaos, with lead changes everywhere, and the finish between Naomi Scott and Lucy Derbyshire was one for the ages. Scott got there to make it a Northcliffe iron double. Derbyshire pushed her all the way for second, and Holly Holmesby took third before turning it into something bigger later in the day. Analise Kibble (Newport) and Isabella Tate (Cudgen Headland) were 10th and 13th here, the opening act of a four-final day for both.

Ski, board and swim
Men's Ski: 1. Piran Phillips (North Burleigh) 2. James Porter (Alexandra Headland) 3. Harrison Taurins (Newport)
Piran Phillips flew in from the UK and beat the locals in their own backyard. James Porter had to settle for second, a result he'd repeat in the double ski. Joe Collins (Northcliffe) was fourth.

Women's Ski: 1. Jasmine Rayward (Burleigh) 2. Emily Doyle (Northcliffe) 3. Charlotte Hart (Burleigh)
Burleigh sandwiched Northcliffe on this podium. Jasmine Rayward won the ski and then finished fourth in the swim, so she's clearly not just a paddler. Emily Doyle collected the first of three podiums on the day, and Analise Kibble was fourth.

Men's Board: 1. Ethan Callaghan (Burleigh) 2. Nathan Mackenzie (Burleigh) 3. Matt Bevilacqua (Northcliffe)
That's the revenge we mentioned. After missing the Ironman podium by one spot, Callaghan led Mackenzie home for a Burleigh one-two. Bevilacqua grabbed third, his second podium of the day.
Women's Board: 1. Holly Holmesby (Burleigh) 2. Emma Woods (Alexandra Headland) 3. Analise Kibble (Newport)
Holmesby went one better than her Ironwoman result and took the win. She and Bevilacqua were the only two athletes to make two podiums across the Open iron, board, ski and swim finals. Emma Woods was second here, which kicked off a run of three silvers for her. Kibble got her podium.

Men's Swim: 1. Darcy Lewis (Noosa Heads) 2. Joel Piper (Burleigh) 3. Noah Steiner (Wanda)
There were 42 swimmers in the final, and the surprise packet of the day came out on top. Darcy Lewis put Noosa Heads on the top step. Jackson McCleery (Wanda) was fourth.
Women's Swim: 1. Jade Slee (Tallebudgera) 2. Sarah Locke 3. Charlotte Bowmer (Wanda)
Jade Slee won from a field of 41. Sarah Locke was second and also finished fifth in the Run Swim Run. Jasmine Rayward was fourth, as mentioned.
Run Swim Run
Men: 1. Dane Rayward (Mermaid Beach) 2. Kobe Sims (Warilla Barrack Point) 3. Riley Brennan (Currumbin)
Another Rayward on the top step. Dane won the men's, which made it two wins for the Rayward name on the day.

Women: 1. Charlotte Bowmer (Wanda) 2. Tara Shotter (Northcliffe) 3. Waverly Martinus (Wanda)
Charlotte Bowmer added a win to her swim bronze, and Wanda took two spots on the podium.
Doubles, relays and Taplins
Men's Double Ski: 1. Kurrawa 2. Alexandra Headland 3. Northcliffe
Kurrawa won it, with Daniel Mole in the winning boat. James Porter was in Alex's crew for his second silver of the day.
Women's Double Ski: 1. Northcliffe 2. Northcliffe 3. Mermaid Beach
Northcliffe took first and second. Emily Doyle was in the winning boat, which made up for her silver in the single ski.
Men's Board Relay: 1. Northcliffe 2. Alexandra Headland 3. Mermaid Beach
Men's Ski Relay: 1. Northcliffe 2. Burleigh 3. Mermaid Beach
Northcliffe swept both men's relays, and Mermaid Beach finished third in both.
Women's Board Relay: 1. Burleigh 2. Alexandra Headland 3. Northcliffe
Women's Ski Relay: 1. Burleigh 2. Alexandra Headland 3. Northcliffe
The two women's relays finished in exactly the same order. Burleigh won both, Alex were second both times with Emma Woods in the team, and Northcliffe were third. Emily Doyle's ski relay bronze completed her set of gold, silver and bronze.
Youth Mixed Taplin: 1. Maroochydore 2. Burleigh 3. Mermaid Beach
Open Mixed Taplin: 1. Alexandra Headland 2. Burleigh 3. Southport
The last race of the day turned into a shootout between Alex and Burleigh. Alex held on, which means Burleigh finished second in both Taplins, and Alex head home for the Hayden Kenny Classic having won the last race of the day.
Under 17
Ironman: 1. Oliver Browne (BMD Northcliffe) 2. Saul Easman (Sawtell) 3. Jacob Chalmers (Manly LSC)
Swim: 1. Oliver Browne (BMD Northcliffe) 2. Saul Easman (Sawtell) 3. Finn Bourman (Alexandra Headland)
The top two were the same in both races. Oliver Browne won the double, and then lined up in the Open swim final and finished 15th against the seniors. Saul Easman was second twice, so Sawtell will be sick of hearing the name Browne.
Ski: 1. Lewis Williams (Mermaid Beach) 2. Jacob Chalmers (Manly LSC) 3. Blake Francis
Lewis Williams also raced the Open ski final and finished 13th. Jacob Chalmers added this second place to his Ironman bronze.
Board: 1. Thomas Chalmers (Swansea Belmont) 2. Tyler Johnson (Alexandra Headland) 3. Henry Whitehead (Manly LSC)
It was a good day for anyone named Chalmers. Thomas won this one for Swansea Belmont.
Ironwoman: 1. Jessica Conrad (Burleigh) 2. Ivy Mison (Cudgen Headland) 3. Layla Wyper (Burleigh)
Ski: 1. Bronte Kippax (Newport) 2. Alannah Dimmock (Redhead) 3. Jessica Conrad (Burleigh)
Swim: 1. Ivy Mison (Cudgen Headland) 2. Savannah Glynn (Umina) 3. Alani Sims (Warilla Barrack Point)
Board: 1. Mary Thompson (Maroochydore) 2. Isabella Arghyros (Cudgen Headland) 3. Abby Novosel (Maroochydore)
Jessica Conrad won the Ironwoman and was third in the ski. Ivy Mison went one better than her Ironwoman silver by winning the swim. Bronte Kippax won the ski and then finished 10th in the Open ski final, the best Open result by any U17 athlete on the day. Mary Thompson led a Maroochydore double on the board.
Under 15
Ironman: 1. Jordan Prince (Wanda) 2. Dylan O'Connor (Mermaid Beach) 3. Harry Boulton (The Lakes)
Swim: 1. Jordan Prince (Wanda) 2. Liam Blair (Swansea Belmont) 3. Talus Manning (North Burleigh)
Board: 1. Smith Masson (Currumbin) 2. Harry Boulton (The Lakes) 3. Jordan Prince (Wanda)
Jordan Prince was the junior of the day, with two wins and a third, which made him the only junior to finish on three podiums. Harry Boulton picked up two podiums, and Smith Masson stopped Prince from sweeping the lot.
Ironwoman: 1. Mia Hoo (North Bondi) 2. Sophie Rowles (Coogee) 3. Olive Ray (Maroochydore)
Swim: 1. Sophie Rowles (Coogee) 2. Havana Greig (Maroochydore) 3. Atlantis Morriss (Mermaid Beach)
Board: 1. Coco Balmain (Warilla Barrack Point) 2. Aster McCall (Sunshine Beach) 3. Olive Ray (Maroochydore)
Mia Hoo won the Ironwoman for North Bondi. Sophie Rowles went from Ironwoman silver to a win in the swim. Olive Ray was the consistent one with two bronzes, and Coco Balmain won the board for Warilla.
Sunday: Race One World Youth Championships
Just when you thought the weekend was done, Sunday handed the beach to the next generation. The Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series Race One World Youth Championships brought U11 to U14 athletes to Bonny Hills, chasing world titles in the same surf the pros had raced the day before.

They took it on with plenty of courage and even more smiles. There were podium celebrations with the MC, fingers in the air, and a queue of kids lining up for autographs at the Race One tent.

If Sunday is anything to go by, the future of ocean racing is very bright.
