The Call – Brighton Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series Preview

It’s the second last round of the Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series Southern States Showdown and beautiful Brighton, South Aus is the location for the 5,000 point Brighton Jetty Classic.

With the famous Jetty, it’s one of the most iconic beach’s in Adelaide; were not expecting too much surf but with $3000 of prizemoney and plenty of good vibes its one not to be missed.

Lets take a look at the events.
WOMEN’S BOARD

Favourite: Victoria Barnes (Port Noarlunga) first showing in the Southern States Showdown and will go close here; always one of the best in a board race.

Best of the Rest: Daisy Trim (West Beach) and Chloe Klingner (Southport, SA)

MEN’S BOARD

Favourite: One of the Grange Boys, they have 11 in this and four in the top ten of the Southern States Showdown Pointscore. Imagine picking their board relays.

Best of the Rest: Ethan Jackson (Burleigh) and Felix Antanackovic (West Beach)

WOMEN’S SWIM

Favourite: Amy Buck (Grange) – how good is Grange surf sports right now, between the board paddlers they have and the depth they’re showing, they’re putting on a show.

Best of the Rest: Kayla Roe (Grange)

MEN’S SWIM

Favourite: Issac Keighran (Surfers) a 5th at Glenelg is good enough form to make him the favourite in my books, but this one will be very tight given the quality of swimmers down south.

Best of the Rest: Jack Wells (Grange) Ethan Jackson (Burleigh) Lachlan Washington (West Beach)

WOMEN’S SKI

Favourite: Chloe Klingner (Southport, SA) – Could be a Southport double here in the Ski Races but with Klinger only ranked 9th there is plenty of opportunity for the winner to fly up the rankings.

Best of the Rest: Zalika Cederblad (Seacliffe) and Victoria Barnes (Port Noarlunga)

MEN’S SKI

Favourite: Macklin Harvey (Southport, SA) he’s been super consistent and leads the Southern States Showdown with two 3rd and a 4th in recent weeks (and in very good company) but this is the most competitive event of the day and will be tough to win.

Best of the Rest: Tom May (Seacliffe) and Aiden Carberry (West Beach) are the big threats.

IRONWOMAN

Favourite: Chloe Reyntjes (Jan Jac) The Victorian sits second on the pointscore in this one, but with a strong but extremely small field its really tough to pick a favourite. Whoever wins this, it’s going to be tight..

Best of the Rest: Georgia Zuill (West Beach) and Victoria Barnes (Port Noarlunga)

IRONMAN

Favourite: Ethan Jackson (Burleigh) – Currently sitting on top of the Southern State Showdown pointscore with 2 rounds to go – has looked a class above at these events but will be pushed the entire way.

Best of the Rest: Harry Stevens (Grange) Xabian Cederblad (Seacliffe) and Aiden Carberry (West Beach) are all good enough to win here in the right order but it’s the Zuill boys who are the darkhorse’s for me, have been the top of the tree for a long time and don’t seem to be going anywhere soon.
