Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series Lorne Classic
All good things must come to an end.
It’s been 54 days since the Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series Southern State Showdown kicked off at the Battle of the Bay in Warrnambool. Since then, the series has zig-zagged across the southern states, building momentum at every stop, before arriving at one of Australia’s most iconic coastal arenas
Lorne hosted its inaugural round of the Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series last year with resounding success, and in 2026 it returns bigger, stronger, and sharper than ever. Set in the heart of the Great Ocean Road, Lorne is a destination that blends raw coastal beauty with deep sporting tradition. From the world-famous Pier to Pub swim to its rich surf lifesaving history, this town knows how to deliver on the big stage.
The Lorne Surf Life Saving Club has long been a breeding ground for elite talent, producing athletes such as Tristan Read and Billy Bowden, while a strong new generation continues to rise through the ranks. Racing on home sand, you can expect the locals to be fired up and ready to defend their patch.
If you haven’t been to Lorne, it’s genuinely one of Australia’s great coastal towns hidden slabs tucked along the coastline, world-class surf, standout dining, and what many would argue is one of the best pubs in the country.
As the final round of the Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series Southern State Showdown, the racing is set to be hot, fast, and unforgiving. The rivalry between South Australia and Victoria continues to intensify year after year, and one clear by-product of bringing the series south is the ever-growing strength of the entry list. Each season, more genuine contenders are stepping up to challenge the world’s best.
The Victorian junior men and women are as strong as they’ve ever been, with the Under 17 races shaping as must-watch viewing. Add to that headline open men’s and women’s ski races, and all eyes will be locked in —especially as the global surf-sports community waits to see whether Steve Kerr can go back-to-back in the men’s board race.
By Satruday afternoon, everything will be decided. Titles will be won, rivalries settled, and the Shaw and Partners World Ocean Series Southern State Showdown Champions will be crowned fittingly, on one of Australia’s most iconic beaches.
